2020 Comedy Wildlife Photography Award Finalists

2020 has been one rocky year but luckily, in the world of animals, it's never been better! Since the beginning of the pandemic, it was the Earth and animals that have benefited from the lack of us humans destroying the world.

And with the yearly competition, Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, we're further able to celebrate the magic that is animals, majestic or not. The incredible photographers that have been selected for this year's finalists have really delivered some animal gems! The following photos, captured at the moment, are hysterical and show us all that we're not alone when it comes to looking funny when our photos are taken!

We were able to talk to Michelle, the head of Comedy Wildlife Photography Award's press office, and asked about the process of narrowing down so many wonderful photographs into the top finalists, she had this to say about the process, "... it is a brutal process. We started with over 7000 images - and whittled them down based on: level of humour, quality of photography, ability to get people's attention. It sounds relatively vague the last point, but we want to get our message of conservation across to as many people as possible, and the images must attract their attention!"

Well, these photographs selected definitely capture our attention!

The winners will be announced on October 22nd, but the following images are all winners in our eyes! Congrats to all the photographers who made it to the finals and thank you for sharing such imagery with us -- we all could use this fantastic pick-me-up!

The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) holds a photography competition once a year and recently, they have announced the 2020 winning images.

2020 has been a challenging year for zoos and aquariums around the world who had to deal with the financial impacts of closures as well as taking care of the animals in times of social distancing and loneliness.

The winning images of the competition, only open to zoo or aquarium staff and volunteers, have managed to capture incredible behind the scene moments from the daily routine of animals and staff alike.
Judge and BIAZA spokesperson Andrew Hall said: "Every day our zoos and aquariums are sharing the extraordinary beauty and fragility of the natural world and this is evident in the incredible winning photos."

No Need For Mascara: Animals With The Most Beautiful Natural Eyelashes

According to Wikipedia, an eyelash grows in one layer on the edge of the eyelids and protects the eye from debris, dust and small particles. The eyelashes perform some of the same functions as whiskers do on a cat or a mouse in the sense that they are sensitive to being touched, thus providing a warning that an object (such as a bug) is near the eye.

But lashes are not found only in humans.

There are some mammals with remarkably long and thick eyelashes - camels, horses, cows and some species of birds are just a few on the list.

Check out these gorgeous animals with beautiful eyelashes.

The Rare White Peacock Is Dazzling Even Without The Colorful Feathers

Watching a male peacock flashing his colorful tail feathers is definitely a spectacular sight.

But what about the rare white peacocks? Can they make a dazzling appearance even without all those bold colors?

As you can see from the photos below, the answer is yes!

Contrary to the belief, those beautiful white peafowls are not albino. They are suffering from a genetic mutation called leucism, which prevents the pigments from being deposited into their feathers, leaving them with a total white appearance.

With more than 150 feathers that reach their full length at the age of two, these rare peacocks are just as feisty and beautiful as their colorful counterparts. While some of them can be found in the wild, it's more common for white peacocks to be the result of selective breeding in captivity, where they can live for up to 50 years.

Beautiful Photos Of Colorful Butterflies On Flowers

Butterflies are a common sight in many gardens, pollinating and feeding on a wide range of flowers.

Those beautiful creatures have an amazing range of color preferences between the various species, but as a general rule, flowers that are white, pink, purple, red, yellow and orange attract the most butterflies. Blue to green flowers are universally the least favorite flower color. Some evidence indicates that butterflies may learn which color flowers tend to produce their favorite types of nectar, using color as a visual cue when hunting for these plants.

We have collected some photos of this wonderful combination between flowers and butterflies.

People Can't Decide Which Zebra Is Facing The Camera In This Viral Photo

It all started with a simple question on twitter: which of the two zebras in this photo is in front, facing the camera, the left or the right one?

The Indian Wildlife photographer, Sarosh Lodhi, took this photo of two zebras in the Maasai Mara national game reserve in Kenya, and it went viral.

As you can see from the following comments, people had a hard time deciding...What do you think?

Photos Show That People Were Riding Zebras In The Late 19th And Early 20th Centuries

A new photo archive by Vintag.es shows that some of the European colonizers penetrating Africa in the 19th and early 20th centuries were riding wild zebras as an alternative to horses.

The reason behind it is the zebra's resistance to diseases carried by tsetse flies which made their domestication more attractive.

However, as many European colonizers learned in the early 20th century, despite their similarity to horses, zebras are just a bit too wild to completely tame.

Unlike horses, which naturally roam around munching on grass, zebras spend their lives cagily watching, evading and fighting savannah predators such as lions, cheetahs and crocodiles. Natural selection has bred zebras to be nervous, flighty and brutally aggressive if cornered.

But taming individual zebras to perform horse-like duties has occasionally been successful. Lord Walter Rothschild, for instance, trained a team of zebras to pull a carriage, which he drove past Buckingham Palace to demonstrate their supposedly pliable nature.

Childhood television programs have popularized the theory of frienemy with Tom & Jerry and Tweety Bird and Sylvester of Looney Tunes.

We have learned It is a game of domination on the hierarchy of animals, not of friendship.

But the animals proved us wrong.

As you can see from the following images, animals do help other types of animals as well as their own.

They reach others when they need it, without any prey, predators, companions, or enemies' roles.
