Man Who Almost Died Opens Successful Family Practice Clinic With Therapy Cats

Sometimes bad things happen and we're left with difficult challenges, and if we face those challenges they can only make us stronger.

Meet Dr. Will Powers. In a detailed post on Imgur, Dr. Powers shared his story, from hitting rock bottom and working his way up.

His story dates back to one specific event, in 2017. Dr. Powers had three cats named Sirius, Arcturus, and Cygnus (all named after stars), two of the cats were Guinness World Record Title holders. Arcturus for tallest cat to ever live and Cygnus for longest tail on a cat.

According to Dr. Powers, life had been great so far, "[Dr Will Powers and his Dr. wife] were booking TV shows and charity events, as I was president of the Ferndale Cat Shelter at the time, and the cats fame helped us raise money to help Detroit rescue and street cats."

Then on November 12th, 2017, Dr. Powers woke up to find this house completely ablaze. Desperately searching for his beloved cats and opening up as many rescue routes for them to possibly take, Dr. Powers soon passed out from the smoke.

First responders found him in the basement, the house had burned down to the foundation and he lost everything. Including Arcturus, Sirius and Cygnus.

After a year of trying to recover from the lost mentally, and physically, Dr Will Powers decided to make a change in his life -- and open up his own family practice clinic, Powers Family Medicine.

Dr Powers decided to spice things up a bit and create a theme for his practice on the two things he loves most -- video games and cats.

Man Moves Into Animal Shelter To Help Dog Get Adopted

Scott Poore, a Kansas City animal advocate, has moved into an animal shelter, Great Plains SPCA, where a three-year-old terrier mix named Queen has been for more than 400 days.

Queen was found in the shelter near his home by animal rescue officers. She was found living behind a dumpster and had medical issues that prevented her from being adopted straight away. Poore could come visit Queen every day for the past year and it broke his heart that this loving pup hasn't found her forever home.

He wanted to come up with a creative way to get people to notice Queen and his solution? To move out of his house and into hers, until she finds her forever home.

Tam Singer, the Great Plains SPCA CEO, was asked to document the experience by Poore. And as wild as the idea sounds, Singer was more than willing to help out and called the idea "fantastic."

Singer told Yahoo Lifestyle, "He has the ability to make individual dogs matter. He's helped so many of our dogs and dogs all over Kansas, More than anything, it highlights not only the plight of Queen but so many other dogs. It's magnificent."

Yikes! One couple in Tuolumne County, California, had quite a wild day! Edward and wife Kathy Sudduth were watching TV when they heard a loud bang from within their home. The couple believe the home invader was after their neighbor's cat, who found shelter but the more dangerous cat was still there -- in their living room.

According to FOX40, The mountain lion actually ran into Kathy, and it took her a moment to realize what had just happened.

"We thought it was a dog," Kathy told FOX40.

"His tail was pretty close to me so I just 'thwipped' it a little bit like that," Edward added.

The noise and touch the couples made sent the invader running into the bathroom, where it locked itself inside!

Edward and Kathy barricaded themselves in a room and immediately dialed 911 for some assistance.

The Department of Fish and Wildlife and Tuolumne County (DFW) sheriff's deputies came to help out.

And with permission from the Sudduth's, the deputies broke the bathroom window and watched as the mountain lion leaped out.

And while this is definitely quite the experience for the Sudduth's, they would prefer to keep it a memory. Edward jokes, "Won't leave the door open anymore."

Teens Watching Late-Night TV Heard Fridge Beep Only To Find Out It Was A Bear Stealing Taco Meat

This is crazy! Can you imagine, you're in the living room watching some late-night TV and all of a sudden you hear the fridge open and beep in the kitchen. You think, maybe one of your parents got up for a midnight snack? Seems logical, right? You would never think in a 100 years that the person in the kitchen, who opened the fridge, wasn't a person at all.

It was a bear. A black bear.

That's what happened to these two teens from Truckee, California around 12:30 a.m. this past Saturday. 15-year-old Hayes Sherman told CNN, "I heard footsteps, and then I heard Tupperware being opened really loudly and aggressively. The fridge started to beep because it was open too long." Sherman continued, "I was really scared. I wasn't exactly sure of what to do. I was watching TV with my friend, and I turned the TV off. We both went to the sliding door to hold it in place so that the bear couldn't get in."

A Nest camera in the living room happened to capture the bizarre scenario. In the video below, you can see the black bear stand on its hind legs, sniff around and dig through the fridge. The bear broke the Tupperware to devour some taco meat, and it is said that the bear's late-night snack also included two pints of Ben and Jerry's ice cream (Half Baked and The Tonight Dough flavors), and some crackers.

This bear has some good taste in late-night snacks!

Sherman's mother was sleeping upstairs, completely unaware of the drama that was unfolding downstairs. Soon enough, the bear bumped into the door where the teens were hiding out and tried to open it multiple times. Sherman and his friend held it shut and realized they didn't have their phones with them. While Sherman's friend held onto the shaking door, Sherman used his Apple watch to call his mother.

"I whispered to her, 'Mom, there is a bear in the house. Don't come downstairs,'" Sherman then called 911 as his mother called a security guard.

"It was very difficult, because I was whispering to 911 on my watch in a very dark room while trying to hold the door closed so the bear couldn't get in," said Sherman.

The police arrived in 13 minutes but it felt like an hour to Sherman.

His mom, Susan Mohun, said she fought every urge to race down the stairs.

"That is the worst-case scenario as a parent to have a bear between you and your children. I am glad that I didn't run downstairs, because that probably would have just agitated the bear," Mohun said.

Placer County Sheriff's Deputy, Allyson Prero, opened the door, got out of the way and let the bear leave the house, according to the sheriff's office. "We came out, and we went to hug her, and we took a photo with her because we were just so grateful that she came to save us," Sherman said.

This Nanny Stole A Family's Aging Cat To Rescue Him From "The Needle"

Here's a brave and caring woman, Rebecca Katz, who couldn't let the family she nannied for euthanize their aging cat. Katz says she heard her employers threatened the 15-year-old Tabby cat named Tigger with "the needle" every other day.

It got to a point where Katz was afraid to come into work and finding out Tigger was gone. "For a few years, I've been crying because I didn't know that the cat would be there the next day," said Katz.

She offered to take the senior cat and give him the proper care he needs, but the family refused.

So she did what she felt she had to do -- steal Tigger.
