Cat Gets Money For Christmas And Sparks Wholesome Thread

Getting gifts is great but giving gifts feels a whole lot more fulfilling! In this insanely adorable Twitter thread, user @averagediana shares a series of photos of her family giving their pet cat, Gus, a Christmas gift of $5.

And even though, yes, Gus is a cat, and cannot do anything with the $5, it's the thought and sentiment behind it that counts.

After the the tweet went viral, other users began sharing what their furbabies received for the holidays and it's simply too precious.

Other users simply shared pics of their pets due to their uncanny resemblance to Gus himself!

Either way, we're not complaining. We can look at cat pictures all day. And we do.

The Icelandic Christmas folklore of Jólakötturinn, depicts mountain-dwelling characters, in this case, a Yule Cat, who come to town during Christmas. The Yule Cat is said to be a large and wicked murder floof who lurks in the depths of the snowy countryside.

And once a year, during Christmas time, the Yule Cat comes out and eats people who haven't gotten any new clothes to wear before Christmas Eve.

In this holiday-themed and interesting new series created by PBS, called Monstrum, and hosted by Dr. Emily Zarka, we learn all about the Yule Cat

Zarka explains, in the video, why and how this legend came to be:

"The threat of the Yule Cat represents a rather practical problem—the need for warm clothes and successful wool production. Iceland began exporting wool in the Middle Ages, and it became vital to the Icelandic economy and survival. During this time, wool related chores were the responsibility of the entire household. …the largest tasks at hand were spinning and weaving. … In the past, Christmas gifts among most people were sparse and usually consisted of some small piece of clothing—but that was only possible if everyone had participated in the annual production of wool and done their fair share of the work. …Because the Yule Cat only attacks people who do not receive new clothes, this monster likely emerged as a response to the importance of wool production, scaring children (and even adults) into finishing their textile work in time for Christmas."

Spooky stuff! Happy Holidays to all and look out for that Yule Cat come next Christmas!

Stolen Pitbull Returned Home In Time For Christmas

If this isn't the definition of "Christmas Miracle" then don't know what is! Listen up Hollywood, THIS is the kind of movie we would love to see!

This handsome Pit Bull, named Zeus, was stolen from his family a few months ago by a "supposed" friend.

Chelsea Staley, executive director of Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, told WOWK 13 News, "Basically robbed her blind stole her wallet, a number of things while she was at work including her dog Zeus…the friend was apprehended in Nitro… and when he was arrested Zeus was still with him."

Thankfully, Zeus was microchipped and ended up at the West Virginia at the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association (which, by the way, is 2,000 miles away from home).

And since Pitbulls aren't allowed on commercial airlines, the group Many Paws Volunteer Transport set up a relay of volunteer drivers to get Zeus home for Christmas.

Fifteen drivers, nine states, four days. Zeus made it home in time for Christmas and the happy tears just keep coming!

Thank you to all those who helped bring Zeus home!
