If there is one universal truth, it's that people and animals have always shared a bond and connection with one another. Things might be different now but there are some things that never change, like the love between a little boy and his dog. Or the love between a little girl and her cat. Animals have always provided us with hope and joy and these vintage photos only further solidify that.
It's comforting to know that no matter how much time passes, animals will always be there to bring us smiles and we humans will be there to love them in return.
Usually, when we mention rescues, we talk about how humans rescue the animal, care for it and provide the animal with a loving, warm forever home. We rarely talk about the other rescue there is, how our pets, in turn, rescue us. The world seems a bit darker these days, it can't be helped, but thank goodness we have animals by our side to help take some of that darkness away.
We don't know where we'd be without animals in our lives and don't even want to think about it. Cats (dogs, or any other pet) can rescue us too -- and they have, in so many ways. Pet owners out there will understand when we say, we may have rescued them but they rescue us back each and every day.
This cat medley is for all the cats out there, thank you for being in our lives!
If you have a story of your cat you'd like to share, check out our newest Facebook page, 'ICanHas Storytime,' our newest pet community for our users to finally share their pet stories! From heartwarming stories to silly shenanigans you caught your pets doing -- all are welcomed!
Time to warm up and laugh with fondness at how adorably silly our pets can be.
We all know how much our cats love sunshine, and dogs' love for some warmth rivals that that of cats pretty well. But to what length will they go to get the warmth that they want? Every cat owner knows that their cat will find that one ray of sunshine in the house no matter where it is, and it'll take you about an hour to get all the dirt of your dog after it rolled around in the sunshine in the dog park.
But to have them turn on your SAD lamp on their own? That's a whole other level to get to to achieve warmth. And the following tweets will make sure that your heart is warm too.

As BBC News reports, Phil Heckels, from Worthing, West Sussex, started working until the alias Hercule Van Wolfwinkle in 2020. Jokingly, he drew his his dog and put it on Facebook, offering paid-for commissions. He was just as surprised as anyone when genuine requests started coming in. Not only that, but his drawings have gotten really popular, and as pet owners ourselves, we can totally see why. Because the volume of requests was so big, it essentially became a lottery where Wolfwinkle decides who he draws and who he doesn't.
In addition to the drawings, Wolfwinkle writes accompanying fake profiles for each pet as well as reviews from the 'customers' - also written by Wolfwinkle. Additional merchandise, such as tea towels and calendars, has also been created.
Initially, the drawings were marketed at the joke price of £299. Later on, that became Wolfwinkle's original fundraising target. Now, "he has ambitions to reach £75,000, and has publicly vowed to get his first tattoo - his signature on his buttocks - on reaching that goal."
Wolfwinkle told BBC: "This whole thing is absolutely brilliant. To be honest it still doesn't feel real. I remember being sat on the sofa with my wife, laughing that we would never reach £299, and now we're here. I'd love to do this forever, it's just working out how we keep it going because I've basically created a second full-time job for myself. The money and publicity for Turning Tides has been phenomenal."
It's true that every single adoption needs to be celebrated - taking the time to take care of any animal, giving it the love and support it needs. It is also true that there is something extra special about adopting senior pets.
Taking in a senior even though you know that they won't live as long is emotionally challenging. Yet, making that decision and deciding to give all your love to a less fortunate pet is something that we should not only be celebrating but also something that we should be grateful for, because not everyone can take a pet like that on.
When our amazing ICanHasCheezburger users decided to share with us their stories of senior pet adoptions, we knew that saying thank you to them would only be right. And if you have some of your own stories, come share them in our new Facebook community - ICanHas Storytime.

Pets. How different our lives are when we have a loving animal with us. You may not even realize it, but little things in your life are altered thanks to your adorable companion. One artist decided to explore what life would be like without a dog, and the exact same scenario with a dog. To take in the pup or say, "no, thank you," that is the question and will lead this character down two different timelines. The result? It's as clear as night and day.
The talented artist behind these powerful illustrations is Ademar Vieira. Ademar Vieira is a journalist, screenwriter, and illustrator. He works in an animation studio in Brazil and since 2018, he produces comic books in partnership with other illustrators and alone. In 2020, his comic strips, which talk about social, environmental, and personal issues, went viral in Latin America and other parts of the world.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and these illustrations convey those thousand words.
Remember, no matter what they broke this time- you still love them. Even if it was your window, you still love them. Even if they're the world's biggest delinquents, you still love them. No matter how bad the cat-astrophe... you know you will give them snuggles and kisses later.
Because it doesn't matter how many things your little delinquent destroys, they're still your little delinquent. And yes, you may cry a bit about that vase that cost you too much money and that you'll never get back, but... at least looking at other people's pets destroying their things is funny. So, laugh at the pain of others in these pictures that purrfectly encompass the true struggle of pet ownership.
We, animal lovers, enjoy nothing more than hearing wholesome, adorable, and heartwarming animal news stories. Animal stories with a happy endings never fail to make us smile, and we know that you guys are exactly the same. So, when you decide to share some of your pets' stories with us, we decide to say "thank you for making us smile" by sharing them with everyone else and hopefully making them smile too!
All animals have their stories, whether they're cute, heartwarming, or so funny they make your stomach hurt. Come share your pet's story in our new community on Facebook: ICanHas Storytime. Give us as many details about the story as you have, don't forget to attach pictures and videos of your fluffball, and your baby might get its own feature story on Cheezburger, where more people will smile because of it.
Choosing a name for your pet is not an easy task. It's the name that will stick with them for the rest of their lives, that'll make them come over when you say it (or totally ignore you when you say it if they're a cat). So, you wanna get that name decision right. Or not.
A bunch of tweets that wet viral show that even the simplest, least inspired, least creative name can be a good one so long as its given by people who care about the pet. TC seems to be a name that people enjoy giving their cats, and guess what it stands for? The Cat. Yup. Simple, accurate, catchy and hidden in plain sight. You'll never suspect what it stands for unless you ask.
Let's be real - we all talk to our pets. And yes, we totally believe that they understand us. We tell them everything from our daily struggles and achievements to how cute they are and how smart they are and how beautiful and gorgeous and chonky and oh my goodness you're such a good puppy- anyway.
It's totally normal to talk to your pets, don't even worry about it. And twitter is here to prove just that. After a tweet telling the story of someone talking to their pet went viral, other twitter users chimed in and started sharking funny stories of them talking to their pets as well. So, don't worry, you're not alone in talking to your pets.
2020 will forever be known as the year of the crafties. Seriously, even those who don't craft turned to crafting at some point in 2020. Whether that craft be painting, knitting, or baking bread (yes, baking is a craft), 2020 was the year that all human beings became so boring with existence that we turned to anything we could to make us feel again.
And crafts really did come through for us in 2020, it gave us a feeling of accomplishment which we all needed. And there's no crafting include that doesn't include animals wreaking havoc, or crafts, especially for animals. And if you did do crafts that didn't include animals... well, let's just say it didn't make our list.
We know that with the New Year comes new expectations but try to keep the crafties alive!
