It's an unfortunate fact that many animal shelters euthanize the animals they are unable to care for if they haven't been adopted. These two dogs were next on the list so a picture of the dogs hugging each other with a plea for help was posted on the Angels Among Us Pet Rescue Facebook page. Thanks to a gracious foster home and a helpful internet community these puppies were saved! According to a follow up to the original post it took only two hours and six minutes (they counted) to find these pups a good home. Now they'll have a whole family to hug!

A man in Canada fought off a cougar to save his dog's life. When the cougar took hold of his adorable dachshund he punched it in the face so that it would let the dog go. This kind of bravery might seem foolhardy but experts say he was right to fight back. Thanks to his decision to stand his ground both the man and the dog are alive and safe.

A Chinese man bought two puppies that he was told would grow up to become good watch dogs. For two years he took care of them as they grew and acted differently than other dogs. He finally discovered that they were not dogs, but protected Asian black bears when he visited a wildlife exhibit featuring the threatened species of bear. Fortunately he was able to contact the forestry police who found the bears a more suitable home.

This dapper calico named Tama had a very important role as the station master of an electric railway station in Japan. After eight years on the job, she was laid to rest in a beautiful ceremony which 3,000 co-workers, admirers and friends attended.

As you can see, she took her job very seriously. The Kishi Railway Station where Tama worked was nearly shut down, leading to her adoptive owner, a local grocer, to be named station master in 2006 to cut costs. A year later Tama took over the role.

Her popularity as station master is credited for saving the station. She even has her own merchandise.

Fortunately a new station master has been named. Tama had an apprentice who is ready to take over the job. She is also a calico cat, her name is Nitama and by the way she's wearing that station master hat it looks like she's up for the challenge.
