Shar Peis, English Bulldogs, and Shar Pei & English Bulldog mix. What do these breeds have in common?
Wrinkles! And lots of them! But why? In the case of the breed Shar-Pei, it's a condition known as "Cutaneous mucinosis," which Wikipedia explains as, "a group of conditions involving an accumulation of mucin or glycosaminoglycan in the skin and its annexes. It is described in some connective tissue diseases but never in association with mixed connective tissue disease."
Pups with wrinkles are getting more and more popular due to their unusual and quite frankly -- adorable look. You may disagree with us here, and that's OK. These giant wrinkles these breeds don can remind one of a towel, or more so, a baby with rolls of fat.
We see both, towels and babies.
The way humans look at babies is pretty much how others see these unique pups. Love them or not, we're here to appreciate their uniqueness and fight the urge not to smush our faces into those delicious soft rolls of cute.
