Veterinarians Of Reddit Reveal What They Wish Pet Owners Would Understand

We absolutely adore our pets, no matter what crazy shenanigans they may get into or how often they keep us awake at night. The alternative to living a life without a pet just sounds so... lonely. If you're a pet owner, you'd want the absolute best for your best friend because you love them. Well. here are some really helpful tips that may just take you from being a good pet owner to being a great pet owner.

When it comes to animals, vets have quite a difficult job. To be a vet you must love animals, yet you often sick animals and sometimes, even have to help them cross over the rainbow bridge. It's definitely no easy task and we can't help but admire their strength.

Thanks to Redditor, u/mrktx21, a question to the Reddit community about what veterinarians wish people knew and understood about their pets has gone viral, and within the thread is a lot of valuable and excellent information.

vets share what they wish people knew about their pets - thumbnail of smiling dog "Veterinarians of Reddit: What is one thing you wish people would know/understand about their pet?" "About their pet, the best one I know is one I heard a while ago: You have your life, your job, your friends, your family to provide your social interaction per day. Your dog only has YOU. Interact with your dog for more than five minutes per day and maybe your dog will not go out barking every five seconds."

During this crazy time many of us have been confined to our homes and for some that means to be home 24/7 with our best friends. Our pets. However, because of this, many pets have become accustomed to having us home with them.

But then the question is... will they be okay once bans are lifted and people are able to slowly go back to their daily routines?

Will they be able to handle their best friends not being by their side 24/7?

It is expected that many dogs (even cats!) can suffer from separation anxiety, and pet experts are saying that it's a good idea to get your pet ready and used to post-quarantine separation now, to minimize their stress later.

Here are some useful tips for both dog and cat owners.

How To Make a First Aid Kit For Your Pets

When your pet suffers an illness, injury, or poisoning, knowing what first aid to do (and not do) can have a big impact on their recovery, safety, and comfort. Regardless of whether you've taken (or are planning to take) a first-aid class, you still need to have the supplies and "gear" handy to be able to administer first aid to your pet. And that's where having a good pet first-aid kit comes in. Below is an easy and handy guide to putting together an awesome first aid kit for your pet. (Pro tip: keep one at home and one in the car).  Although you can buy a ready-made pet first aid kit, you can customize one to the needs of your specific pet with some items you may already have in the medicine cabinet or pantry, plus a few others you can pick up online or at a local pet store. The holiday season is upon us! It's is officially December and people are starting to put up their trees and decorate! However, any cat owner knows this is no easy task and more than luckily, some damage will be done.

Jackson Galaxy has created this video with helpful tips for all cat owners who want a ...less destructive Christmas year.

He also added some really helpful tips in the video's description that we've shared below:

"* When it comes to candles, they need to be out of reach of cats. Cats tip over candles and start fires. Cats burn themselves on candles. Make sure they are wall mounted or a place where cats just cant get to them. Same goes for incense.

* Wires: Cats get into Xmas trees and will sometimes chew the wires for the lights. You can treat the wires with substances like "Bitter Apple" - also use any of my suggestions for keeping them away from the tree in general OR don't use electric lights.  Also there are products like LUME where you can feed electric cords through them from the tree to the outlet and your cats wont be able to chew through it."

Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday season, everyone!

Today Is Feral Cat Day: 4 Ways To Help Them During Winter

Feral Cat Day is celebrated every year on October 16th to remind us of our love of the furry-little devils, and how every stray cat has within them a loving cuddle-able furball looking for a forever home.

In August of 2001, Alley Cat Allies celebrated its 10th anniversary and launched the first annual Feral Cat Day to promote raising awareness about feral cat colonies and how to care for and prevent them. Alley Cat Allies is a strong supporter of the 'Trap-Neuter-Return' policy, where stray cats are captured and brought in to local volunteer veterinarians to be neutered and returned to the streets. This allows the cats to live out their lives on the streets, without creating more kittens to perpetuate the problem.

Feral Cat Day is best celebrated by alerting people of the various issues facing stray cats.

One of these issues is the cold winter months. For feral cats, this time of year is no winter wonderland. Winter temperatures stress outdoor pets and take a toll on homeless animals. These cats need our help, especially during the cold season.
