Adopted Girl Helps Senior Dogs Find Forever Home, Just Like She Did

What a beautiful heart 14-year-old Meena Kumar has.

At 9-months-old, Kumar was found abandoned in a basket, on a college campus, in Pune, India. Kumar spent a year in the orphanage before being adopted into her forever home by a couple in Mumbai. The family currently resides in San Jose, California.

While she was living in Mumbai, Kumar would care for a litter of puppies. And now, living in California, Kumar spends almost every weekend at the Humane Society or Muttville Senior Dog Rescue.

Muttville rescues 1000 dogs per year and is a cage-free rescue. A cage-free rescue whose mission is to give these senior dogs a second chance at life.

Kumar tells CNN, "More people should adopt senior dogs. They give you the same unconditional love as any other dog." As someone who understands what it's like to be left behind, Kumar wants to help these dogs find their forever home, just like she did.

However, to volunteer at the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, you have to be at least 17-years-old, Kumar was 12. So, Kumar decided to come up with an idea that can help the dogs without being a volunteer. She advertised on Nextdoor, a popular neighbor community site, offering pet sitting, and thus, Pet Fairy Services was born.

The 'Cuddle Club' In SF Unites Senior Citizens With Senior Dogs In The Sweetest Way

The innovative program by the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue is a win-win solution for people and animals who need companionship, exercise, and affection.

Senior dogs are the perfect companions for senior humans, and the cuddle club is committed to making it as easy as possible for seniors to adopt. The San Francisco club that was founded in 2007 has already found homes for 6,600 senior dogs ages seven and up, many with senior people who want dogs that are a little slower themselves.

"Some of the pets are blind, missing limbs or have arthritis, Beth Hofer, who volunteers as the Cuddle Club manager told Today, "and some are so full of pep and energy that it is hard to believe how old they are". All of the dogs are able to be adopted into new forever homes.

People over 62 years old qualify for the "Seniors for Seniors" adoption program, which includes a waived adoption fee and a month's worth of supplies. If a senior citizen can't adopt a dog, he can always catch some snuggle time at the Cuddle Club. Seniors can spend an afternoon socializing with each other and cuddling with the mutts!
