He's spent 10 years developing this gift and the work shared from him just goes to show how talented he is and how far he's come.

Giant Animal Sculptures Made Of Excess Rice Straw

Northern Japan is known for its wealth of rice that produces a rich harvest each Fall. And after that rice is harvested, there's a huge amount of rice straw that is leftover called "wara."

The Japanese people are also known to not waste anything so that excess wara was reused in plenty of ways: roofs, fertilizer, livestock feed, and historically used for a variety of goods that have been since replaced with modern advances.

One area decided to do something different with the excess rice straw. In the region's capital city, Niigata, they have used the rice straw to create giant and incredible animal sculptures. The Wara Art Festival has been an annual event for the past decade!

Artist Turns Flower Arrangements Into Colorful Animal Sculptures

Rako Inoue is a Canadian artist who was born in Tokyo and moved to Montreal, Canada, when he was 9 years old. On his website, he describes himself as "very much influenced by both cultures so that folding origamis and painting graffiti never felt too disconnected from each other". Being curious by nature, he was inspired by the traditional Japanese art of Ikebana - creating unique flower arrangements. Raku has a beautiful garden at his home and every day, according to the different seasons, he takes what nature offers him and creates colorful sculptures of animals from flowers, stems and leaves.

Artist Creates Animal Sculptures From Trash To Draw Attention To Waste Production

And he is successfully getting that message across! Portuguese artist, Artur Bordalo, has created an art series, 'Big Trash Animals,' that has been so successful in achieving his goals in drawing attention to waste production locally that he's now going global!

From the USA to Estonia and Tahiti. Bordalo scavenges his materials from waste that was dumped in the area, which, sadly, has proven to be less than difficult. And from that trash, he creates his magnificent sculptures.

In Bordalo's own words, "I belong to a generation that is extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy. With the production of things at its highest, the production of "waste" and unused objects is also at its highest. "Waste" is quoted because of its abstract definition: "one man's trash is another man's treasure". I create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness."
