Well, Marulympians, the end is here. We cheered Maru on as he competed in every event of the 2012 Marulympic Games, and he walked away with a gold medal for every single effort! Now it's time for hugs and high fives as we say goodbye to these great games. Great job, Maru! You are truly the greatest CAThlete of all time!

To be honest, the judges were not impressed with Maru's javelin technique. I mean, never in the history of the Olympics has any athlete just... licked... the spear without even bothering to throw it. Nonetheless, they awarded him the gold medal in the event because HE'S JUST SO DARN CUTE!
This is Maru's last official event, but tune back in on Sunday for the Marulympics closing ceremonies!!!!!1

While not in top form, Maru still managed to squeeze the gold medal out of the shot put competition. Mainly because he is the only one competing in the Marulympics, but also because... well, no, that is the only reason. Congrats, cat! Don't feel too bad about your lack of grace; nobody looks good during shot put!

The best part of the Cat Olympics is the opening ceremony where they let a bunch of cats loose in a stadium with 3,000 balls of yarn and we all watch, breathless and in utter AWWWWW, for like nine hours.

Sarah, an 11-year-old cheetah at the Cincinnati Zoo, set a new world speed record this summer during a shoot for National Geographic magazine. She first earned the title of world's fastest land mammal in 2009 when she covered 100 meters in 6.13 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 6.19 seconds set by a male South African cheetah named Nyana in 2001. On June 20, 2012, Sarah shattered all 100-meter times when she posted 5.95 seconds. By comparison, Sarah's 100-meter run was nearly four seconds faster than the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt of Jamaica, whose fastest time for the same distance is 9.58 seconds. Sarah's top speed was clocked at 61 mph.
