Glow worms in pitch black black caves are one of the most beautiful natural phenomena we've come across. One of the most known places to visit such caves is in New Zealand, and we think that if you have a chance to visit, you absolutely should. These places are nothing short of magical, and we can only imagine the feeling of passing through a cave like that. 

Unlike their name would suggest, glow worms are not actually worms. They're part of the beetles family. But regardless of what exactly they are, their bioluminescence is absolutely stunning, and we hope that looking at their pictures will bring some magic into your day.

Let's be frank, 2020 has been a difficult year to say the least. From rumors of a world war in January to a pandemic to a news cycle that just makes you want to turn off your TV. But... things weren't all bad. All the lockdowns had quite a good result to some portions of the population - namely, animals. 

Suddenly, we were seeing videos and news stories about animals walking around on the empty streets, swimming in empty oceans and clearer skies. Animals absolutely THRIVED this year, and we think that's something worth commemorating and celebrating. So, for the end of this year, as a special treat, we have collected 40 of our favorite most positive, wholesome, happy news stories of 2020 that are all about animals.

The Kallima inachus, also known as the orange oakleaf or dead leaf butterfly is nature's perfect example of how something may not be the most beautiful on the outside but is hiding incredible beauty on the inside. This butterfly may not look like much when its wings are closed, hiding in plain sight, camouflaged as a dead leaf, but the moment its wings open, so does our eyes open in awe.

This butterfly has one of the best camaflauge abilities we've ever seen. It is so easy to miss. You might have even seen one in your own life at some point, and because it's wings were closed, you didn't even know about it. That's how easy it is to miss someone's inner beauty, and we hope that this incredible creation of nature will remind you how important it is to appreciate what is inside.  

There are certain pictures that, when you look at, you feel absolutely speechless. Those pictures, a lot of times, are the most incredible ones. The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) holds a photography competition once a year and recently, they have announced the 2020 winning images.  

2020 has been a challenging year for zoos and aquariums around the world who had to deal with the financial impacts of closures as well as taking care of the animals in times of social distancing and loneliness.   

The winning images of the competition, only open to zoo or aquarium staff and volunteers, have managed to capture incredible behind the scene moments from the daily routine of animals and staff alike.
Judge and BIAZA spokesperson Andrew Hall said: "Every day our zoos and aquariums are sharing the extraordinary beauty and fragility of the natural world and this is evident in the incredible winning photos."

Sometimes, all it takes is just one photo to leave you speechless.
