Two-Faced Kitten, Named Biscuits And Gravy, Born In Oregon

Kyla King, from Portland, Oregon, woke up on Wednesday to check in on her pregnant cat to discover a litter of 6 newborn kittens.

She picked up each kitten, and when picking up the last kitten, she found herself face-to-face with two tiny noses and two pairs of eyes tightly shut.

Kyla said she sent a picture to her husband, BJ King, with a text that read: "We have 6-1/3 kitty cats now!" BJ shared the news on their local community page, Albany Happenings.

"I said we'll probably get a little bit of reaction out of this and it took off really fast," BJ told Koin. Kyla reached out to their vet to learn more about their surprise kitten(s), and how to properly care for it. Unfortunately, there isn't much that could be done for the kite(s)n medically. All Kyla could do is make the kitten(s) comfortable and make sure the kitten(s) eats.

"It doesn't really know how to nurse properly because it has two mouths so I've been trying to feed it," Kyla said.

The two-faced cat isn't the first of it's kind, it's actually known as a "Janus" cat. Named after the Roman god Janus often depicted with two faces in mythology. They suffer from a rare congenital defect called disprosopus, or cranial duplication. Most Janus cats don't live longer than a day but one defied the odds. His name was "Frank and Louie" and he passed away in 2014 at the age of 15.

The kitten(s) appear to be doing well and taking it day-by-day. The King's do have a realistic outlook.

"We're not super optimistic but it does seem pretty lively and has an appetite and seems to be doing pretty well," BJ said.

"It's smaller than the other kittens but it could be the runt, too, on top of having two faces," Kyla said.

They've named their kitten Biscuits and Gravy—"Biscuit" for short. There has been many requests to take in Biscuits and Gravy but the King's are planning on keeping the special kitten(s).

We wish Biscuits and Gravy and a long and happy life!

UPDATE

We are sad to report that Biscuits and Gravy did not make it. The kitten born last week has passed on Saturday night, Kyla King tells CBS affiliate KOIN-TV.

Biscuits and Gravy lived about four days. We are heartbroken over the news and wish the pair a peaceful rest.
