Officer Rescues Kitten From The Highway

Poor little kitten must have been absolutely terrified!

Thankfully, Officer Jason Smith of the North Kansas City Police Department, in Missouri, was on duty when the call came in! A 3-month-old kitten was stuck on the side of the highway.

When Officer Smith was driving and searching for the whereabouts of the cat, he all of a sudden spotted the little ball of fur up on the center divider, with a toy glove behind her.

Roadkill is a huge problem for many cities, and to solve this crisis, Los Angeles decided to implement the world's largest wildlife bridge that will extend over US Highway 101, a 10-lane freeway. The animal overpass will connect various parts of the Santa Monica Moutain in order to protect mountain lions and other wildlife. The 10-lane highway restricted many animals from roaming as they would naturally, however, the green bridge will now allow mountain lions to socialize and mate, significantly increasing their odds of surviving as a species. The bridge has a budget of $87 million USD and recently entered the final design phase. If all goes to plan, the bridge should open by 2023. Well done, L.A!

In London, They Build Tiny "Highways" To Make Hedgehog's Life Much Easier

There are close to a million hedgehogs who are roaming the streets, parks and gardens of London, seeking out wood and vegetation to take refuge in. Barnes Hedgehogs, a local animal activist group decided to transform the city into a more hospitable environment for hedgehogs by drilling tiny "hedgehog highways" through the walls of the city. The passages are just wide enough for the animals to climb through, making it easier for them to travel from one green space to the next. Carving hedgehog highways through the stone partitions and wooden fences bordering parks and gardens is one way Barnes Hedgehogs is making life in the big city a little easier for its most prickly residents. Big like from us!
