Scared And Sweet Adopted Kitten Discovering New Home (Viral Imgur Thread)

It's never easy to bring a new kitten home. All you want is for the kitten to be happy and cozy and understand that you mean it no harm. Sometimes, it takes a while for the kitten to discover and get used to its new home. But eventually, they see the loving adoptive parents that we are and give us a chance

Such is the story of Melfi, MickDuncher's adoptive kitten. For a whole week, she hid in the bedroom and didn't leave, scared of her new environment full of new humans and animals. But now, she's a happy girl, and we're happier for it.

Injured And Rescued Snowy Owl Released Back Into The Wild

About a month ago, Atlantic Veterinary College staff found an emaciated and dehydrated snowy owl near Souris, P.E.I. and rescued it. Finally, after a month in capable hands, the beautiful bird was released back into the wild.

As reported by CBC news, an intern with the Atlantic Veterinary College Wildlife Service, Dr. Hugo Gonzalez, said that it was "amazing" for the students and staff to see the owl fly off back into the wild. And we have to agree, seeing a wild bird released back to where it's supposed to be is always a beautiful thing.

"To be able to see a patient who came with severe emaciation, not even able to properly move or eat, up to the point where you can see that the full recovery process has been successful and just have that moment to see her properly [fly], it's definitely an amazing moment for you," Dr. Gonzalez added.

He also reminds people that if they ever see a snowy owl in the wild, it's important to only admire it from a distance. If you come across a bird in distress, contact local officials.

CPR Revives Baby Elephant, It Returns To Its Mother Safely

An off-duty rescue worker in Thailand, a few days ago, was faced with one of his most challenging situations yet. Having been called in while off duty on a road trip late on Sunday evening, Mana Srivate had to perform CPR on a baby elephant that was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road. The elephant can be seen lain on its side while Mana gives it two-handed compressions as Mana's collogues take care of the dazed and injured motorcycle rider.

As CNN reports, "[b]oth the rider and elephant were recovering and neither had serious injuries". Mana, recalling the incident, told Reuters by phone: "It's my instinct to save lives, but I was worried the whole time because I can hear the mother and other elephants calling for the baby."

"I assumed where an elephant heart would be located based on human theory and a video clip I saw online," he added. "When the baby elephant starting to move, I almost cried."

It took almost 10 minutes for the baby elephant to get back up again, but it did. It was quickly taken to another location to be treated, and as soon as possible, it was returned to the scene of the accident in hopes of reuniting it with its family. And in a true Christmas miracle way, the baby elephant was later spotted with a fully grown elephant that is presumed to indeed be its mother.

A happy ending to what could have ended as an absolutely heart wrenching story, and we can only thank Mana for his incredible work saving the baby elephant. For more amazing animal stories, check out our recap of the most positive animal stories of 2020!

Meet Pepperoni, the most adorable tiny feisty kitten who loves biting people, taking naps in silly places, car rides, and chilling at work with her human.

Peppi's owner found her under a dumpster a couple months ago when she was only 4-5 weeks old and weighed less than a pound and absolutely fell in love with her and adopted her. And seeing this little girl, we totally understand that love. In a viral thread on imgur, anzinipanini talks about her journey with this kitten, and we only continue to fall in love with her.

And though anzinipanini begins her thread with "[t]his post isn't super important," we and other users totally disagree. This post and Pepperoni are extremely, extremely important.

Celebrating The 120th Birthday Of The Oldest Known Nile Crocodile

Happy 120th  birthday to the oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity - Henry!

It truly is a rarity for these gorgeous crocodiles to get to 120 years of age, so, to celebrate, the Crocworld Conservation Centre on the KZN South Coast threw Henry the Nile crocodile a birthday party! Henry and the staff celebrated his birthday together, with the staff eating birthday cake, and Henry getting his favorite of all meaty snack.

The crocodile arrived at the Crocworld Conservation Centre in 1985 when he was at the young age of 85. Today, he is five meters long, 700 kilograms in weight, and he is the father of over 10,000 offspring with his six female cohabitants. So, one can easily say that getting older has definitely not slowed Henry down even one bit.

Being the oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity, Henry has got many, many more years of leisure, relaxations (and a good time with the ladies) in his wonderful sanctuary. On top of all of his other very impressive achievements, he has also been listed at the second oldest crocodile in the world, with the number 1 spot having been taken by Mr. Freshie who was 140 years when he passed in 140.

We wish Henry many more birthdays in the future, and may he break Mr. Freshie's record and live long beyond that as well.

Rescued Dog Travels The World Helping Rescue Other Dogs

On the way to deliver a puppy to its new family, brothers Henry and Elias Friedman, had a change of plans that changed their lives. The family that was supposed to rescue the pup changed their minds and decided to not adopt the puppy after all, and Henry, instead of bringing the Finn the puppy back, decided to adopt him himself. At the time, Henry had left his career in advertising and was living in a converted cargo van. It was a good thing that the puppy turned out to really, really like traveling.

"It was a test drive, very literally a test drive. I was already living in a van. He turned out to be a really good travel dog," Henry told PEOPLE. "We just got really, really close."

After adopting Finn, Henry started an Instagram account for him called @KeepingFinn, where all of their adventures together are documented, including meetups with some of the account's fans. Finn, who is now 2 years old and 50 pounds heavy, is Henry's official best travel buddy. "You don't feel like a stranger everywhere you go," he said.

Having grown a huge social media following, Henry decided he wants to do more, and he decided to start a project rescuing other dogs in need like Finn. "Each month, the account features a local rescue from the area that Henry and Finn visiting on their travels, helping to raise awareness and funds for the rescue."

Henry and Finn together manage to raise about $13,000 a month and have raised over $150,000 to date. Alongside their monthly dog rescue initiative, "Henry and Finn have hosted spay and neuter clinics, offered free vaccinations, and held pet food drives as well. The duo has also helped more than 60 dogs find forever homes, even fostering pooches in the van while they wait for the perfect match."

"We bring dogs on the road with us, live the van life, bring them on big adventures and find them families," Henry explains. One of their latest achievements was joining Wings of Rescue and The Sato Project and helping them transport over 150 rescue dogs from Puerto Rico to their new adoptive families on the east coast.

Finn is, of course, loving all of the adventures. "He's never peed in the same place more than once, he is living his best life. That makes me really happy," Henry says. So, not only is this adopted puppy happy, he's making other puppies happy as well, and we're happy for them as a consequence.

Check out some pictures of Finn and Hanry's adventures below! For more wholesome dog rescue stories, read about a puppy left tied to a bench with a note getting adopted.

Tumblr Thread: Kitten 'Temporarily' Called 'Trash Bag' Gets Adopted

Quite often, there are times when thing happen little kittens get to vet clinics, and they're not ready to be adopted yet. It could be for all kinds of reasons, and it might be that they'll be there for a long time until they're better. What we never think about really is the nurses' attachment to these kitties. We know that if it us who get attached to half of the adorable kittens on the internet, we would definitely get attached to the kitties.

To lessen their attachment as much as possible, they give the kittens temporary "bad" names so they don't constantly call them "the black cat" and so they have a place for detachment. This tumblr story is one of a nurse who couldn't help herself and ended up adopting one of these kittens - one named "Trash Bag".

Only Trash Bag turned from a temporary name to its permanent one. And we just have to say - we love you, Trash Bag.

Giant Panda Cub Gets Named And Its A True 'Little Miracle'

We've an update about one of the most positive stories to come out of 2020, and the update is just as wholesome as the original story. The (tiny) giant panda cub that was born at the Smithsonian's National Zoo three weeks ago has finally gotten a name, and it is the most appropriate and cutest name of all. Xiao Qi Ji is his name in Chinese, but it translates to 'little miracle' in English.

The little giant panda has gone absolutely viral in the past couple of weeks after a video of his miraculous birth was released by the zoo, and since the world fell in love with the cub, the zoo decided to let the world participate in naming him. Of course, the internet does not disappoint when it comes to baby animals.

We were given a choice of 4 names, and after three weeks and nearly 135,000 votes that have been cast, the adorable name 'little miracle' was chosen. The long waiting period was not an accident, it is part of Chinese tradition to wait 100 days before naming the cub. We wish the little cub luck and prosperity, and for his mother, Mei Xiang, to have many more adorable healthy cubs in the future!

Tiny Owl Rescued From Christmas Tree Is Set Free

A story truly fitting the Christmas cheer. A tiny little owl was found inside of a Christmas tree. Yup. Inside of the iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree, workers discovered the tiny owl "clinging for its life to the 75-foot-tall Norway spruce". After surviving a 200 mile journey from Oneonta to Manhattan, the owl was found as the crews that were about to erect the tree were unwrapping it.

The New York Post reports that strangely, though the bird is tiny and looks like a baby owlet, since owls are born in the spring, it was immediately understood that this owl is not actually a baby. She is a northern saw-whet, a bird that only grows to about 5 inches tall and 2 to 3 ounces in weight. "I thought it was such a heartwarming Christmas story, that there was this secret in the Christmas tree," said Ellen Kalish, the director and founder of Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in New York.

Workers at the Rockefeller Center, after the New York Post reached out for a comment, said: "We inspect each branch of the tree individually before it's wrapped, but birds sometimes can find their way into it on the journey." For three whole days, the owl didn't have any food or water, but once in the hands of Kalish, she got all the mice she wanted.

Today, in an update to the story, we found out that the little birdy has been set free at last to its natural habitat to continue her migratory journey. And though her journey was harrowing and incredibly long, she's gotten herself a little Christmas miracle in not only being found and rescued but also in making a full recovery and getting to continue her life in the wild as she was meant to.

Check out pictures of the owl and her release below. And for another story of an incredibly feisty owl with singed wings getting rescued from a fire, click right here

There's no nightmare worse for any pet owner than losing your pet. Realizing that they're not home, shaking their food and them not coming. I've been there, and I had my baby baby kitty come back to me the following day - exactly 24 hours later. And though those 24 hours were some of the worst I can remember, having her come back was the happiest moment in the world.

Same thing happened with this young boy who, after finishing with the school day, walked over to the car to be picked up and was shocked to find that the dog he had lost was waiting for him. Tail wagging and a bow tied like a collar, the dog's tail starts wagging immediately, the boy is shocked, and then, we're all crying tears of joy.
