Twitter Thread: The Incredible Story Of Simon, The HMS Amethyst Ship Cat

When we think about history and war, rarely do we think about the animals. Deservedly, we talk about the soldiers and the fallen, the events that occurred, but sometimes, the animals have stories of their own. Simon, the HMS Amethyst ship cat, has lived one of the most amazing cat lives and has one of the most incredible stories. Thank you to @garius for putting this story together and sharing it with the world. We hope many more people read it and learn about Simon.

Simon is not the only ship cat out there either, there apparently have been many ship cats adorably sleeping in tiny hammocks throughout history. And other cats throughout history have been captured destroying all of our things. And though, no, none of their stories are quite as amazing as Simon's, we love them all.

When it comes to nature, there are so many things left undiscovered. Every other week, we hear about a new species being found, an old extinct animal coming back into the world. We read interesting stories about nature all the time, like when a 392 year old shark was discovered or when a study was done that showed that sometimes octopus punch fish for no reason other than spite.

There are always more facts to learn about the animal world. And today, you're about to learn about one of nature's mysteries. Thanks to @AlexPetrovnia, we had taken the time to thoroughly look into this mystery, you're about to learn about the truth behind why we don't find fossils in the Appalachian mountains.

Tumblr Thread: The Gentle Giants Of The Horse World

If there is one animal that we believe does not get enough love, it's horses. Yeah, everyone knows what horses are, but does everyone know that horses are majestic galloping creatures of beauty? Do they know that horses get spooked by affectionate goats with pool noodles on their horns? Do people really know anything about horses other than people sit on them? We don't think so, so we think that it's time to learn.

We shall start with the most majestic galloping enormous horses of them all: draft horses. They are huge and gorgeous, they are the gentle giants of the horse world, and they are truly whinnying at life. And now, they're about to get the appreciation that they deserve.

tumblr thread about draft horses | thumbnail includes two pictures of women sitting on draft horses 'Organism - I never made a post about draft horses. :T They are the gentle giants of the horse world, sometimes growing as large as 20 hands and over 2000 lbs. The tallest horse in the world is an American-type Belgian horse named Big Jake (I think???).'

The Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Berks County, PA has started the "Book Buddies" program that brings children together with shelter cats that need companionship and provides the kids a furry friend to read to.

Children in grades 1-8 who are able to read at any level may come into the shelter to read to the cats in our adoption room. Similar programs at other shelters across the country have seen the benefits the program has to offer. The program will help children improve their reading skills while also helping the shelter animals. Cats find the rhythmic sound of a voice very comforting and soothing.
