Delaware Becomes The First "No-Kill" State In The U.S. For Animal Shelters

This is amazing! Delaware is making history as the first and only no-kill animal shelter state in the country! According to Best Friends Animal Society, a non-profit animal welfare organization. for a state to be recognized as "no-kill," it must achieve a 90% save rate for all the animals that enter -- and Delaware did that.

Brandywine Valley SPCA, which has three locations in Delaware and cares for more than 14,000 animals each year, have multiple programs implemented on how they achieved this no-kill status!

"What were once monsters to be feared are now curious and magnificent creatures that delight. We like to feel that science and exploration has brought about this change." - NOAA Research

This is the very first time a giant squid has been captured on footage in US Waters. Edie Widder, one of the leaders of the research team was funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told the Washington Post it was "one of the more amazing days at sea I've ever had."

The camera that captured the amazing footage is called Medusa, it employs a red lights invisible to most creatures at deep-sea depths, and was used to lure the animals with its attached "e-jelly" display, which mimics the bioluminescence of a deep-sea jelly fish.

Upon reviewing the Medusa's footage, the team wrote in their mission log, "People quickly gathered around. We knew immediately that it was a squid. It was also big, but because it was coming straight at the camera, it was impossible to tell exactly how big."

The scientists identified it to be a juvenile giant squid, about 10 to 12 feet long.

5 Rhinos From A European Zoo To Be Released To Akagera National Park in Rwanda

The largest ever transport of Rhinos from Europe to Africa is happening today, June 23rd, 2019! In which five rhinos from European zoos are to be transported and released into the Akagera National Park, Rwanda.

This is huge as the Eastern Black rhinos belong to a critically endangered subspecies.

Veronica Varekova, an avid advocate of wildlife conservation, says, "I have witnessed increasing pressure put on the rhino population in Africa over the past 8 years, due to poaching and habitat loss, so when I was presented with the idea of European zoos donating Black rhinos to Akagera National Park, I was thrilled. In my view The Republic of Rwanda is one of the safest countries on the continent today, a country I have visited often in the last 10 years. I knew right away I would be dedicated to this project from the beginning to the end."

No Elephants Have Been Killed By Poachers In Africa's Top Wildlife Park For Over A Year

This is an extraordinary triumph! One of the largest wildlife parks in Africa, Niassa Reserve, is marking a complete year without finding a single elephant found killed by poachers. The last time an elephant killed by poachers at the Niassa Reserve was May 17, 2018. This incredible turnaround is largely due to the more assertive police force, patrolling, and response by air, according to New-York-based Wildlife Conservation Society.

A year ago, James Bampton, county director with the Wildlife Conservation Society, estimated that there were less than 2,000 elephants remaining in Niassa, and now with a preliminary analysis of date from a survey in October, Mr. Bampton indicates there are about 4,000 elephants in the reserve!

Mr. Bampton told ABC News that the elephants in the reverse "stand a genuine chance for recovery."

Ryzhik, The Siberian Cat, Becomes The First In The World To Get Four Bionic Paws

Ryzhik (which translates to Ginger), unfortunately, lost all four of his paws back in January in a -40C storm in Tomsk, Russia. When he was found, all his paws had been so badly frostbitten and with gangrene developing at lightning speed, there was no choice but to amputate.

Luckily, Ryzhik's new owner truly cares for this cat who has overcome such great odds. The owner took Ryzhik to a special clinic in Novosibirsk that specializes in artificial limbs.
