Happy Father's Day! In honor of all the wonderful dad's out there, we're celebrating some of the best fathers of the animal kingdom.
Emperor Penguins are one of the best dads in the animal kingdom because after the females lay their egg, the males incubate the egg for up to four months! During this time the males do not eat and must endure sub-zero temperatures. All this dedication is why we think Emperor Penguins have earned the title of Best Animal Dad!
Kiwis lay the largest egg in relation to their body size of any species of bird in the world! According to the San Diego Zoo, "one egg might reach up to 20 percent of its mother's weight."
Now that is one squeemongus egg!
Scientists say birds evolved from dinosaurs, and this Kiwi looks like it's showing its ancestry. Is this hatchling, with its bald patches, pointy beak, and leathery feet creepy or cute? Let me know which you think!
