It's never easy to bring a new kitten home. All you want is for the kitten to be happy and cozy and understand that you mean it no harm. Sometimes, it takes a while for the kitten to discover and get used to its new home. But eventually, they see the loving adoptive parents that we are and give us a chance. 

Such is the story of Melfi, MickDuncher's adoptive kitten. For a whole week, she hid in the bedroom and didn't leave, scared of her new environment full of new humans and animals. But now, she's a happy girl, and we're happier for it.

Every little kitten matters - whether it's one you found in a shelter, one that followed you home from the street or one that your neighbors accidentally found in their burn tile. All the little furballs deserve a chance at a good life in an incredible forever home. This little garbage kitten thankfully found a home just like that.

The baby is living with another rescued garbage kitty who's her BFF and am unspecified number of dogs, one of whom she hugs falls asleep on every single night.

It may be the best thing to come out of 2020! The animal shelters in the Washington area are experiencing a rare and unique occurrence... the amount of dogs available for adoption is increasingly limited! Thanks to the mess of 2020 and everyone pretty much forced to stay at home for a majority of the year, people turned to adoption as a source of comfort and meaning. 

Cindy Sharpley, founder, and director of Last Chance Animal Rescue, a nonprofit animal shelter in Waldorf, had this to say about the rare phenomenon, "We thought people would stop adopting because they would need to conserve their money, but that hasn't happened. It's been just the opposite. They're going like hotcakes. We can hardly keep them in stock."

Another animal shelter, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Arlington said it's expecting to end 2020 by helping around 3,385 pets find their forever home! The year prior, they were about to help about 1,800 find homes. Shelter Animals Count, which runs a database and is able to track all the shelter and rescue activities reported that 26,000 more pet adoptions in 2020 than the year before. This number comes from about 500 rescue organizations across the country.

There has been such a demand for animals, that shelters across the country simply do not have enough animals to keep up with this increasing demand.

Mirah Horowitz, executive director of Lucky Dog, had to make some changes to keep up with the demand, and that meant moving the operation online! Horowitz told Washington Post, "Anyone who felt like, 'I can't adopt an animal because I'm at work all day' is now finding they're at home. People want a pet for companionship and to give kids a sense of responsibility and a playmate."

Ginger is from Russia, and if there's definitely an abundance of something in Russia... it's snow. Luckily for Ginger, that doesn't seem to be a problem. This gorgeous cat was once adopted from the street and has never looked back! Ginger is a fluffball and absolutely loves dashing through the snow! Oh, and we're assuming Ginger does some part-time meow-deling on the side when not playing in the snow. "Why?" You might ask, well, just take a gander at the images below and then you'll fully understand.

Is there anything cuter than a puppy? Yes, MANY PUPPIES. Many puppies all together, lumped up in one big pawfect puppy pile. Oh, what we wouldn't do to get in there and cuddle with them. We can't imagine a more positive, wholesome way to spend an evening then experiencing the joy of a puppy pile.
