Members of the Monte Adone Centre for Conservation and Research of Exotic and Wild Fauna rescued a wounded, malnourished wolf from the freezing cold waters of the Limentra in the Italian province of Bologna. They found the wolf, given the name Navarre, partially paralyzed and in an extreme state of hypothermia.

They later learned that Navarre had been shot multiple times with lead pellets, but fortunately these bullets caused no major damage to the wolf's internal organs.

The Centre says that Navarre is beginning to heal and that "day after day [he] demonstrates a strong temperament and an increasing desire to live."
