Memories of Olympics Past: I Guess Barbecuing Doves Was a Thing in 1988

The Opening Ceremonies in Seoul back in 1988 were pretty normal by Opening Ceremonies standards. And if by "normal" you mean "immolated a score of doves with the Olympic Cauldron" you'd be totally right.

The fun begins around 4:47, right around the time you see the birds flying perilously close to an open flame.

(Warning: While it's not all that graphic, if you're sensitive to barbecued white pigeons I advise caution in your viewing)

In Season Two of the Doctor Who remount, episode 11, we got a glimpse of the future (at the time--the episode aired in 2008). The future... the year 2012. In which the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) ran the Olympic Flame to the London Olympics.

WE SAW THE FUTURE. IT MIGHT HAPPEN. YOU NEVER KNOW. RIGHT?

Every four years people gather to watch the Olympic torch on its journey to the Opening Ceremonies. It's a tradition as old as time, but now it's time for a new one. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I am of course referring to the prestigious running of the Olympic Banana. This one is bound to catch on eventually, right?
