It's safe to say that Team USA sprinter Manteo Mitchell is a team player. Three days ago, he landed awkwardly walking up a flight of stairs and thought nothing of it. During his leg of the 4x400 meter semifinal today, he realized he probably should have been a little more careful.

As soon as I took the first step past the 200-meter mark, I felt (my leg) break. I heard it. I even put out a little war cry, but the crowd was so loud you couldn't hear it. I wanted to just lie down. It felt like somebody literally just snapped my leg in half.

With the fate of his relay team making finals hanging in the balance, Mitchell made the completely logical decision and ran the final 200 meters with what ended up being a broken left fibula.

USATF CEO Max Siegel described Mitchell's 45-second split as "an inspiration," dubbing him as a "hero to his teammmates."
