What a crazy couple of weeks. Thank you for reading, following, and sharing what you've read on Roflympics over these Summer Games! It has been a labor of love for the staff of Roflympics -- a staff made up of two overenthusiastic Olympics fans slash Cheezburger employees. Cheezburger was amazing enough to let us two employees try out an Olympic website, and we were big enough sports fans to make it happen.
Thanks again for reading and enjoying, and we promise to see you again for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi!
Your enthusiastic moderators, Nick and Alison
We here at Roflympics have done our best to provide fair coverage of the most exciting Olympics news, shenanigans, memes and happenings. You may have noticed that we haven't touched on covering Olympic Basketball. This is frankly because the Olympics aren't as fun when you play in god mode.
The above article explains (with some salty not-for-work language) why watching a team completely and utterly DOMINATE a sport just isn't fun. The United States is large (in population and physical size) and has quite the legacy of sport, not to mention the largest number of athletes competing in the Olympics this year. Of course Team USA is going to win things. But when people take bets on not just who will win the match, but by how many dozens of points? There's just not a lot of competition in that.
Besides, we'd way rather cover adorable high jumpers, friends breaking records, a country's first gold in 40 years, and the love of a parent for their child. That stuff is way more interesting than a single country winning everything. That is why WE watch the Olympics.
Team USA wins the medal count this time around after losing to China in 2008! More importantly though, Italy finished in a very solid eighth place, an accomplishment on par with their invention of the thermometer, Alessandro Volt, and the typewriter.
Thanks for watching everyone! We hope you've been educated in both the medal count and your Italian history.
Wind up in a coma over the last three weeks? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LONDON 2012 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES.
Usain Bolt remained the fastest man alive, Michael Phelps confirmed that he's a child of Atlantis, and USA Gymnastics came out on top.
Then there was Mo Farah helping Team GB have the most wining Track and Field Olympics ever, Americans ran with broken legs, races were run by men with different legs, and hurdles were not necessarily overcome.
Men flew and the world sang and we briefly turned to the stars.
There were shenanigans and spectacular accomplishments. Victories for both teams and individuals, and sometimes and entire country will stand up and cheer.
Although we had fun rooting for silly things sometimes, this has truly been a Summer Games to remember.
